Easter Egg night!

Elijah and I colored eggs tonight! We had alot of fun, and also found a way to use the leftover dye AND the cups we used to hold the dye instead of just tossing the stuff. Its important nowadays to try to stretch your dollar as far as it will go!!

We put some cylinder noodles in the leftover dye to colour them. Were going to make necklaces for the grandmas!

Here are the noodles drying on an old towel...

..and we will use the dye cups for paint later!

This has been a VERY rough week for my family! My brother, Roger, whos 26 almost died from organ failure! He also had several seizures in the hospital, and they ran a test and found out he has epilepsy! Big strong kid who played football and wrestled and is now a carpenter/electrician is now disabled! Its a hard thing to take. Sarah Barber, whos creative team im on, made this really cool kit of word arts and artistic stamps. She was inspired while working on her psychology homework!! heres the kit

I used the kit to make 2 awesome layouts using photos my Grandfather took as a young man stationed in China in the 1930s. This kit had special meaning to me! He took photos of many places of interest, even places like the forbidden city! He loved China, the people and traditions. He even learned to speak mandarin. All his life he spoke to people about China and used the theory of tolerance of all races, religions and ethnics when he ran for city commisioner many years later. This kit really makes his photos pop!!

heres the story...
Legend has it that a barn and house on the nearby property caught fire back in the late 1800's. A man went into the barn to try to put out the fire, meanwhile his wife who was carrying their infant child in her arms went to the nearby train tracks to flag a train down for help. The mother slipped and fell into the path of the oncoming train killing both her and her infant child. The man later perished in the fire. To this day it is said that you are able to go to the trestle and be able to hear the women and child screaming late at night. It is said that this is a paranormal hot spot in which you can communicate with the dead, it is also well known to be a portal to the "other side".
OK who knows but the teens came back spooked LOL

My mom in law found this wagon at a yard sale and thought Lie (or I) might like it! Its probobly from the 50s or earlier and its very solid. He loves running all over with it! She said if he dident like it, maybe i could put flowerpots in it this summer, but he took it!

I got Lie a real big wheel like I had as a kid, for his birthday! It came early, so we gave it to him early. Its not as big as the old 70s model and it doesnt have the brake mine had, but its a really cool bike! I beleive it cost 36$ and its ONLY availible on target.com

St patties day here involved corned beef, potatos and Lie and his gold balloons! He wore a shirt earlier that said "Irish girls love me" but he got it dirty, so hes wearing another irish shirt!

I also did a layout of Brits bday..

I have several crafts id love to start, including Lies curtains for his room. This house needs some colour to it! We now have a retro 1952 home, which still has alot of the old door frames etc from that period, but also some updated ( and OUTdated) things id love to change! The wood floors in the kitchen are cool, but thes are NOT cool at all. We also have plain whitewashed walls we would love to paint someday! So many projects planned.. not enough time ( or $$$$$)

Ghost Trestle-Adrian MI

So heres the story....
Legend has it that at one time there was a farm house built near the railroad tracks in Adrian, MI. Late one night a fire broke out in the barn. While the father ran to the barn to try to get the horses out, his wife and young son went to the
tracks to wave down one of the many trains that would use that right of way. They were too close to the tracks however and both were struck by the train as it went past. The father was killed in the barn by the fire.
Thats the " local legand" but the genealogist in me wants to do a cencus look up of the address and see if a family was there as discribed AND if they all dies the same night.. kinda fishy. My teens heard stories of voices, cars that stall for no reason etc and wanted to check it out. They took a group of pals and my digi cam and went to ghost trestle!They came back with pics and stories of voices, but these kids are scaredy cats!!! Were all moved in, the pictures are on the walls, but my vintage linens were still packed away. My new place has a clothesline so i decided to use it today! I washed my tableclothes and aprons and they dried in the 50 degree sunshine.

Sadly, I cant dry our everyday clothes outside as we have bad allergies and it was advised by my allergist NOT to line dry our clothes because of pollen in the air landing on the clothes. I grew up watching clothes flapping in the wind and running under moms sheets, so i invited Elijah to run through my tableclothes....

Celebrate Your Heritage This Month!by guest contributor, Terri (meterr)

Did you know that May is Older American's Month?
Scrapping older photos might not seem as interesting as using your current family pics, but it's just as important! If you barely remember who the people are in those old photos, how are future generations to know who their ancestors were? We as scrappers need to preserve and use these photos!

PRESERVE,REPAIR AND ENHANCE...
Before we begin scrapbooking old photos, the first thing we must do is preserve them. Keep originals away from sunlight and dampness. I keep mine in acid free envelopes in a fireproof box. If I know who the person is, Ii write on the back with an acid free pen: who, what, where and when. I have found that 100 year old pictures sometimes last longer than my own baby photos, which were taken in the 1970s. Different photo materials and inks were used during different decades, so wear and fading will differ. I would recommend to a person who is truely interested in doing heritage photo layouts to invest in photo restoration software, such as Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop.Using this software you can fix rips, faded pictures and cracks. You can even crop things out of the pics...but be careful in doing so! The background can be as important as the person in the photo. I like seeing the old car in the background, an old kitchen filled with "retro" items or a tree that might have been a baby when the photo was taken in Grandmas yard, but now its 50 feet tall!

DATE AND AUTHENTICATE
You really dont need to do this next step, but if you want to be authentic and true to the photo's decade or era, you need to learn to date photos and and use embellishments that are appropriate. There are several books and websites to help you date your photos. You can tell by the way the photo was printed, what it's printed on (postcard, Polaroid) and the way the people look (clothes, hairstyles). You can also tell by backgrounds (cars, calanders on walls, etc.). So a photo of your grandfather in the 1940s wouldn't look true to its decade with a Model T car embellishment! here is a helpful website for dating photos:

To make a layout authentic to its era or decade, I use elements and papers true to that decade. A photo of my Grandmother as a teen in the 1920s would call for deep purples, blues, golds and other colors of the Art Deco era. The 30s and 40s saw feed sacks as popular fabrics. Use fabrics to give you ideas when purchasing patterned paper. To find out what types of fabrics we popular in different eras, do an online search for "fabrics in the 1930s" or check out antique price guides! Both are also helpful for choosing appropriate embellishments. I use jewlery, signs, toys and dolls in a lot of layouts. You can even add momentos you might have from these eras such as tickets, clothing tags, small jewlery, or buttons. World events also help date a layout. A 1959 photo of your aunt in a poodle skirt would look great with an Elvis theme, cats eye glasses or a jukebox!It's not necessary to make your layouts "true to its decade", but it's fun, and makes the layout historically correct! You also learn a lot in the process of what was going on when this person lived. It's a way to connect with the person. If this makes you curious as to who the people were in the photos, you can try another hobby...genealogy!!

OTHER FUN THINGS TO DO IN HERITAGE LAYOUTS~
Add the persons name and date of birth~

Make a layout pertaining to the person's job~

Use tickets and programs from an important event in the person's life ~

Make a layout of the town/state in which your ancestor lived ~

Do a layout about how your relative's life was affected by a world event (war ending or starting, natural disaster, etc.) ~

Show family resemblances from generation to generation~

Do an age progression layout of a person~

Make a layout of the family church, vacation spot, family home or place of work~

Do a namesake page~

Scrap a family recipie~

Make a layout about an family heirloom

Im a member of a community called scraplovers and have been for a while now. Recently they had a 7 week around the world scrapbooking journey. It was loads of fun! We visited many countries and had challenges to do each week to make one layout. The layouts were then judged on directions followed in the challenge. points were given for each thing asked for in the challenge etc.. well...

I WON!!!!

I won the digital winner and im now going to be a sweetheart for 2 months on scraplovers!! I just got a list of the things i need to do and im excited to start!! I will recieve kits to make layouts with to share in the gallery!! Im really going to work hard on these and try to make them very original! I also get to make challenges for others to do. wow.. its been a long time since i have blogged!! it was the middle of the hot summer months, and now its just turing cool in the evenings. My kids are back in school now. Brit is in her sr yr and Andre is a jr! how time flies! they are both enrolled in EMT classes at the vocational center and are loving it! Everyone around here gets their pulse checked constantly! Elijah is talking so well now and has become a huge scooby doo fan! I have been scrapping alot, both paper and digi. I have begun to look for digi freebies again! i will share them here when i find good ones!!!

Its finally raining here!! Its not a hard rain, but kind of misty. Its giving me a headache!! LOL

Seems like Elijah is getting better and things are returning to normal!! I have been reading alot since he has wanted me near him most of the time and have read about 5 novels in the last 2 weeks..or less!! Im now reading one called" Mary" by Janis Cooke Newman. Its about he fictional life of Mary Lincoln, Abes wife. Its really good and also has some naughty parts too!!!

I hope everyone had a great Fathers day!! We made Dad burgers, got him a few gifts and went out to place flowers and an angel on grampa and great grampas graves. Heres one of the gifts we got for dad.. it ROCKS!!!!!!

Before the freebies.. I have been tagged so i MUST do my duty!!! When Mackey tagged me i had to go see what this was all about!! I had no idea! Well i must post 7 random things about me and then tag 7 other bloggers to do the same ( 7 random things about them) I wonder who will be tagged next?? Muahahahahhahahaha

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

1. I cant drive. I have some kind of visual imparment which makes me feel like im on the center line when im actually on the side of the road!! I dont want to hurt myself, my family or any other poor souls on the road, so i have my hubby take me places!!!

2. I am really really into some weird things! i love the past! I like to use slang from the past, have older things surround me in my home and learn as much as i can about the past. I dont know why, maybe i was born in the wrong time period. I also like things to do with death. Im not goth or wishing to die, but the gravestones and their markings intrige me, as well as the old art of postmortem photography. I also love finding abandonded homes and taking pics, wondering who built it, when and what kind of things happened there. Really old true crime stories are also something i like to read about.

3. I have a math disability called dyscalclia. It makes number jumble in my head. i defenity dont do the checkbook!! Its like dyslexia, but it has to do with numbers. I probobly have a 2nd grade math level, but the weird thing is, i am super good at reading! When i was in 5th grade I was tested and my math was very low 2nd grade level, but my reading was 12th grade level. I still remember how shocked the lady who tested me was!!

4. I was a foster child. Along with my 2 brothers, we were moved from home to home, seperated and then i was emancipated in 1989 ( thats what they call getting out of care " emancipated" ) i had some creepy and dirty homes. I still shutter to think what COULD have been. I try to encourage people to visit a website of poor kids who dident survive the system. 5. I do talk alot about the bad stuff in my family, but there was some good too. I loved snowmobiling with dad. We would fly over the frozen sand dunes and then go back home to have hot cocoa. We also had a huge pond right outsdie the door and we skated every night. We went to alot of air force bases and talked to veterans. We also spoke to eldery people when my mom worked in a nursing home. We took hikes in the woods, saw star wars several times at the theater. We went on airplane rides. I attended church camp for about 6 yrs and had a blast. Even though alot of bad did happen, i really do try to keep the good parts fresh in my memory too. I am more positive in my old age!!

6. Speaking of old age.. I really REALLY need a makeover!! My hair is long and blah, im stuck in a rut of jeans, Tshirts and exersise pants. OH ....and exersise.. i need to!! To lose some weight would be awesome !!!

7.. WOW .. done already??? ok.. the last thing is.. If you are a member on any message boards with me, you will notice i say AWESOME waaaaaaaay too much!!!!!! ;)

Wow.. finally friday!!! I went to a few rummage sales today. The 1st was a 1$ per bag sale. Andre got 4 hockey sticks, a clock radio, a tape walkman for a buck. Brit got some jeans, books, a CD walkman and a clock radio etc. Lie got a big pink cadilac LOL. I got a ton of household stuff, 3 prs of jeans as well as some antique kitchen stuff i found. The 2nd sale was cool. Ton of old tapes with our families type of music!! journey, REO speedwagon, ELO etc. I bartered it down to 3$ for a big bag of tapes. In our area it race weekend (Michigan speedway) so everyones on the roads and having yard sales. Busy weekend!

Im really enjoying this blogging stuff and find myself wanting to blog more than once a day!!! I find so much creative stuff on the net!! I just wanted to remind everyone to PLEASE let the creator of the freebie kit you download that you enjoy their work and say " Thanx!!" They work hard on these kits and are SO cool for giving them out free!!! Keep up the great work everyone!!!

My sister in law and brother in law are moving from Michigan to Mississippi this weekend! We have been helping them pack and have been given some cool Xmas yard decor as well as Elijah getting some toys they had saved. He has a huge rubbermaid tote of old McDonalds toys to play with now!! I need to find a moving or travel freebie to make them a layout!!

I worked on my blog into the wee hours last night, and dident get a chance to search for any freebies, but im looking tonite and will add more as i find ones that catch my eye!!!
